Listed In Google

I was euphoric when a friend of mine told me that my site was listed in Google. Searching through my webstats statistics, I found out that Googlebot spidered into my site on 13th January 2005, which means that it got listed in just 3 days!! To test it out yourself, type the keyword hemmy in Google and this site will be listed on the first entry. I have tested on Yahoo and MSN as well however my site was not listed in there although I have submitted my url. It would probably take some time since every search engine has different methods of indexing sites. Well, being listed in Google is a great start to get free and targetted traffic from search engines.

The description shown on the listing though is not coherent to the content of the website. This will require some research on how Google incorporates the description which most probably would have something to do with the meta tags in the html code. Another method would be to fiddle with the extracted content in order to define a good description.

The only way that my site could have been listed in Google was either through my url submission or from the link exchange with my friend, phupang. I have heard that it could have taken weeks if not months just to get listed on Google (That’s why I’m so happy hehe). The next step to be undertaken would be to gather my more common keywords to be listed which is definitely not easy as I will be competing with thousands of other websites with the same keywords. Google’s search mechanism depends on the links therefore this site has to be linked from other web sites in order to get good rankings.

The Google Sandbox is a filter that places new web sites under probation of around 3-6 months. This refrains new web sites from having immediate success in the search results and to deter spam websites that capitalise on Google’s traffic. Since my website has just been listed in Google, being listed in the sandbox will most probably be expected. There is no pending effect whether this site is in the sandbox other than to not to get banned for unrelevant content since Google’s ranking remains relatively unchanged while in the sandbox. During the probation, it is best to attract traffic so that after the sandbox period, this site could be well positioned within Google.
