      Lauren Says:

I concor with Tanya. anaconda was so fake it was unreal. snakes are actually more afraid of people then we are of them. They do not want to bother us. Most snakes live on a diet on rodants and other small mammels. Or whatever comes their way. Plus as you can see by the bulge in the snake it had just recently eaten. Also snakes will actually give a warning hiss before they strike. That will probably give you time to get out of its way. Then once the threat is gone the snake will stop attacking you, if it does in the first place. And as for snakes being pets. I would start off with a smaller one and work your way up. If you get a boa constrictor make sure that you are not the only one who is taking care of it. Just in case. But that’s just my advice.

you need to open your eyes and reilise that anaconda is a film and most so called ‘incidents’ between snakes and humans is due to the humans. we are a threat to them believe it or not and they will only defend themselves not go out there way to attack and eat us.

      Tanya,
You’re right… people who do not know what they are talking about should not leave comments, and that includes YOU. Your pet boa or python might not eat you, but a wild and fully grown python would definitely consider you a tasty bit of sushi. There are quite a few accounts of snakes attacking and consuming humans. Sorry to burst your bubble.

      Marius Says:

      Lauren,
It’s fairly obvious that you lack experience with wild snakes, and only interact with snakes in containers. Please don’t mistake my tone.. I’m not trying to be rude.

I once had an encounter with a Mojave Green Rattlesnake which is a great example of exactly the opposite of what you stated. Snake lovers might want to shut your eyes and not read further, because it doesn’t turn out good for the snake in my story.

I was walking a remote trail in the Mojave desert of California with my friend about 20 feet behind me. The trail had small bushes and short dry grass on either side of it all along. At one long straight stretch of the trail I stopped for a drink of water and turned to offer some to my friend and between us I saw a 6′ or so stretch of emerald green, which stood out against the tan-colored grass, just off the trail and running alongside it. I had just walked past this point without noticing it. I took a step toward it to see what it was and it flew into a rage of hissing and rattling. I had never seen a green rattlesnake before but considering its size I was more than ready to leave it alone and after telling my friend to circle wide we were starting to move away.

No can do though… the snake decided that we’d pissed it off and instead of slinking off somewhere it came towards us. We speculated that it had probably never run into a human being before and had no fear of us, as I’d read about other animals. Nevertheless, the snake wouldn’t let up, which made it more dangerous. It was hissing, striking, rattling, basically really pissed off. At one point we even took off at a run to put some distance between us and the snake and when we’d run about 100 feet we looked back and saw the snake coming down the trail too.

At that point I made a decision that since we were about to set up camp for the night it would be dangerous to have this snake trying to “make friends” in the dark, so I pulled out the Glock 9mm I was carrying (trust me, we were in “The Hills Have Eyes” country) and simply walked up to the snake and shot it.

Before everyone starts emailing me hate mail about killing the snake, consider the fact that since it had no fear of us, it would have no fear of anyone else travelling down that trail, including mom, dad, and the three kids plus Fido that we ended up seeing on the same trail the next day. I’d rather kill the snake than have little Wendy die from an aggressive rattlesnake’s bite.

now i dont like snakes but the people that r saying poor snake r right that an electric fence and from the looks of the picture wat happened was this the snake tride t go under the fence and its back probaly hit the fence wire and got a mild shock the snake not noing that the fence isnt alive attacked it in self defense by biteing the wire and the resulting shock killed it

and to thoughs of u how think snakes will not attack people unless they are provoked or u other hwo say i have a snake like that in my room and it never hurt me consider this snake that have never had any contact with humans before see us as pray and do not fear us and also theresa big difference between a wild snake and 1 in a cage in your room wild snakes have little or no experience with human and will attack you if provoked the 1s we keep in cage that are sold at pet shop grow up around alot of people and are train not to attack us

      Daniel Says:

Firstly, dee, don’t attack other people’s spelling and then proceed to misspell “ridiculous”. Also, “ppl” is not a word.

      Now on to the topic:
It’s too bad that the snake had to go like that. Electrocution is very unpleasant. Unfortunately, that’s what happens when we fuck with nature. We built a compound in this snake’s natural habitat because we’re obsessed with raping the planet, and we put up protection so we would be safe in foreign territory. The snake, likely having no exposure to humans or their destructive creations, probably came along looking for water, shelter, or some such, and thought it was attacked. Its natural reaction was to bite its attacker, which just so happened to be an electric fence. Life goes on, creatures die.

I will say that is a big motherfucking snake though! In africa, they have huge, dangerous wild animals. Where I come from, they’re called Americans.

    30. 30
      PsyDoc Says:

I’m having a little trouble with this photograph. The fence upon which the snake is resting its head and teeth is NOT electric. This is evidenced by the fact that horizontal (fence) wire is directly attached to the metal posts that are inserted into the ground. If THIS portion of the fence were in fact electric, then the fence wire would have to be mounted on a non-conductive bracket, such as porcelain, and cannot touch the grounded posts.

My guess would be that the electric wire is the one that is approximately three-feet away, but I cannot tell with this photograph. If the outer wire is ALSO mounted in the same fashion as the inner fence, then this photograph is possibly a phony.

      Inki Says:

I’ve heard another story about the picture, a story quite a few here have seemed to have guessed already:
The snake (a constrictor by the way, probably some kind of python and thus not poisonous) crawled under the fence, fount itself a large tasty meal (an antelope I think it was, not sure…), and then failed to be slim enough to get back under the fence. Dunno if they killed it or released it (probably killed it) - but anyway it was not electrecuted i’m pretty sure (and either way an electric fence would not have had a high enough voltage to kill anything - unless they were trying to kill the animals they were fencing up… doh…).

And about snakes eating humans: The green anaconda (also a constrictor) is not unknown to reach such sizes it could easily eat a human child or small adult. So if you were, say, sleeping alone some way from a settlement and a hungry anaconda just happened to crawl by… Have happened…

Snakes are extremely cool though :D

      SensibleOne Says:

Wow, some people absolutely amaze me. Poor Snake? Would you enjoy happening upon that snake with your kids in tow, or worse yet, your kids happening upon that snake without you around. A small child could certainly look like a meal to that snake.

Before you start going off about how bad we humans are for killing that poor snake, go look in your closets, in your fridges and freezers, more than likely, you’ve got some part of a ‘poor animal’ there.

The circle of life has and always will be in force, since the dawn of man, animals have been just below man on the food chain and that will remain true for the foreseeable future. If you are offended or displeased by harm to animals, try to recall the fact that your stupid ass wouldn’t be here if early man had not been the skilled hunter he was. Animals eat animals and like it or not, humans are animals.

    46. 46
      Doug Says:

Snakes can make very good pets. I own 4 ball pythons and a corn snake. My childern love them as they are beloved family memebers. Obviously my pythons are much smaller (6 feet is my longest) than the one killed on this fence but my son has been handling my snakes since he was 5 and not once has he been bitten or even felt threatened by them. Yes he knows not to mess with snakes in the wild because when threatened they can bite, although they normally turn and go hide when we humans run accross them.

I don’t understand how people can be so afraid of an aminal that you are generaly 50 to 100 times larger than them. If you figure most snakes in the us are only 4-6 feet long on average and weight from 2-8 pounds , yes there are some exceptions, it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Here’s a thought for ya, rats cause huge problems in most city’s and they’re everywhere. concider this the rats natural predetors are hawks owls and snakes, or course your dog and cat might get a few. Most city’s that i’ve been in have hawks, owls, cats and dogs. Most lack snakes simply because there is no where for the snakes to hide! They try to avoid people and would be much happier laying on a rock or curled up under one eating a rat!

In all my research about snakes, and i’ve done my fair share because i wanted to know what i was bringing around my children, i have only found one case where a snake tried to eat a human. The snake, that was killed before it could swallow its meal, was a 28 ft reticulated python (native to asia, india and africa) and its still unknown if the snake killed the person or the person died and the snake happened apon him.

Closer to home people do die because of snake bites. Some snakes venom is very deadly but here are some more facts for you. Just because a venomous snake bites you it does not mean that it enjected any venom into you and most defensive strikes from venomous snakes do not include any venom. producing vemon takes alot of energy for the reptiles and they pefer not to use it if they’re not eating.

One last though, my son has required stiches from a dog bite, many people in the us are attacked by dogs each year and some are killed by dogs. when’s the last time you heard about anyone dying from a pet snake attack? Even better check and see confirm your fears because reality overcomes fear.

And here’s Pete: the beagle who sniffs out these monster released pets! http://www.videojug.com/film/python-pete

I have respect for nature. My family and I frequently visit Florida’s beautiful state parks. In fact, we typically pick a section of Florida each year to explore for vacation. My concerns are: people get these guys as pets, then release them into the wild when they are too big and costly to continue feeding/harboring inside the home. As a Floridian, I do not like this threat. It is messing with the ecosystem of the Everglades. For those who don’t believe these guys are dangerous, this “pet” SWALLOWED an alligator! A SIX FOOT ALLIGATOR!!!! Now how tall are human adults? How tall is a child? Look whose coming to dinner!

And the real stupidity is the fact we “high intellect, top of the food chain” humans always believe we can control everything, whether it’s a 12 foot long snake (or alligator, they get pretty big too), a lion, tiger, or bear…Oh My! Predatory brains are wired for two things. Eat and reproduce! It’s all for survival. Even more idiocy, we place human thoughts and human feelings on our pets; but they ARE NOT human.

      People get a grip!

    53. 53
      Brian Says:

Alas, the internet can be both absurd and informative. I lived in rural West Africa for several years, which is distant from this picture’s exact location but probably shares some of the same human-wildlife dynamics. Many African snakes are poisonous, and there are many snakes in Africa. Outside of a few urban areas, health facilities with reliable anti-venom stocks are very, very rare. So many people die from snake bites in Africa. The various groups I lived with shared a high level of concern about snakes, people with vast experience with what we call “nature”. Upon sighting a snake, an entire village will mobilize. Everyone hunts until it is found and killed. Perhaps some can understand this by considering that snakes often end up biting children, and children are easiest to kill. So a snake represents a child killer, and consider how “modern” society fears and treats child murderers. Protesting that this snake died because humans are “raping the planet:” is like saying a child molester is the victim of provocative children. At a deeper level, if one responds to this picture with anti-human sentiment, it could mean one is living a cloistered suburban life.

    54. 54
      Kayla Says:

aww pore snake! i feel so bad for it but it is still a really grose snake but i feel bad for it and i wonder if it died? i dont think it did and the teath are so big and grose and the mouth is just so big and red it is just grose but sad if i saw that snake in real life slithering around i would skream and get the heck out of their and i would try to get as far back as posible!

    55. 55
      Kurt Says:

Starting from the beginning. Why are so many of the comments all about how we as Humans are destroying “raping” the planet, and that’s why the snake died. It sounds to me like a large majority of the Tree Huggers out there think that Humans should all go extinct and the animals should take over, because it’s obvious that we have no right to live just like every other organism out there that doesn’t have enough intelligence to do what we can. How about we all go back to the way of living where we all ran around naked and lived off the land. Oh wait, that’s right, we can’t even do that because we would be killing live shrubs and animals to survive. Now that my rant is over, the snake was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Oops, oh well, get over it. Next on the list, every snake I have ever met, has hurt me, or tried to. Accidentally coming onto a Rattle Snake cluster ended with my brother in the Hospital. Or how about the Blow Snake that bit my ankle when I walked by it’s hole, making me have trouble walking for a few days from the strength of the bite. Or how about my neighbor’s pet snake that got out and started eating the local cat life. Come on, it’s an animal, we’re animals, we all belong on this planet, we all kill other life forms. Get over yourself and that fact that stuff happens and things die.

    56. 56
      G WHELLAMS Says:

This constrictor looks like it was electrocuted, there appears to be two conductors required for this electrocution , The first (single strand) close to the ground, the second conductor being the
multi stranded perimiter fence. Single conductor circuits probably do not work well in arrid ,dry conditions, one conductor would need to be insulated from the other for a lethal voltage to exist.
I suspect the single wire being HOT as it would be cheaper to insulate. even so the posts carrying the multi stranded fence might be powder coated ,which would provide the insulation necessary to make the multi stranded fence hot,
If it killed the snake it could probably kill people. but in dry conditions both conductors would be required to be touched by the victim.
