The Digg Effect
What is this Digg Effect? Once your post has 20 or more posts, it will appear on the main page. There is a lot of difference if your post is in the digg story area and the main page. Once your post reaches the main page, this is where the Digg Effect occurs. Tons of traffic comes in your page generating revenue as well if you have any ad programs in your site as well as taking up lots of your bandwidth. People will just keep coming in and digging it to a number of considerable diggs as long as the post is not underquality. So is this effect a good thing or a bad thing?
Well let me share my first experience of the Digg Effect. My post to digg was the Breathtaking Aurora Photos which generated a total of some 800+ diggs and Within twenty four hours 25k visitors visited my site. That’s a whopping number considering that my previous highest record of unique visitors was 800 in one day. My Adsense and TrafficMP revenue also increased 3-4 folds. But all that was just in a short time. It’s not easy to get to digg’s main page but i don’t think its hard either - just need to get the initial 20 diggs. The Digg Effect feeling is really good, very much like an overnight success feeling although only temporary.
There are other benefits as well, since some bloggers had blogged my post entry as well as links to it. RSS feed has increased 20% and some did return to visit my site again. Its a good motivation as to see how much potential the internet business is and nevertheless provide me the drive to enhance my site better and produce more digg posts in the future. On top of that the post will remain in digg where a handful of people will still visit it due to its high digg count. The only disadvantage from this effect that I can see is the bandwidth load taken during this mass traffic frenzy. Therefore I can’t wait to get my hands on my next Digg effect!!
