Giant Asian Hornet
|
The Asian Giant Hornet, vespa mandarinia is a very large size wasp with a body length of 2.7 to 4.5 cm. The queens can reach up to 5.5 cms in length. This gigantic predator has a 6.35 mm stinger and those who had felt its sting describes that the pain is very painful and excruciating. 1 link and 1 pic after the jump. |

These predators attack honey bees and ‘if a colony of about 30,000 European honeybees were to be attacked by 30 giant hornet bees, they would be wiped out in 3 hours.’

Weird to have a comment like ‘if a colony of about 30,000 European honeybees were to be attacked by 30 giant hornet bees, they would be wiped out in 3 hours.’ as if that was a good analogy comparable to something else.
But the fact is that exactly that has happened and there is a full nature documentary film on it. It was really brutal seeing these killer bees going to town on the smaller, defenseless, European bees in a bee farm, chopping off their heads one by one.
A VERY cool doco! I recommend you see it if you find it. Think they showed it on ABC or SBS in Australia…?
