Buddhist Sand Art At Namgyal Monastery

Buddhist Sand Art

Namgyal Monastery in Ithaca, New York, is the North American Seat of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. The art of painting with colored sand is a traditional Tibetan practice. In Tibetan language this art is called “mandala of colored powders”. After a period of days or weeks, it is ultimately dismantled so that the deity’s blessings will be released into the world.
