Dogs have very definite personalities, and believe me, they will let you know if they don’t want to do something, including getting dressed up in a costume. So, perhaps we should just follow their lead, and if they like it, do it, and if they don’t, then don’t do it…..Simple……

I’m completely pro-animal rights, and its an issue I feel very strongly about. I think animal cuelty is sick and disgusting, and should carry a much harsher sentence than it currently does in most countries.
That said, THIS IS NOT ANIMAL CRUELTY. There is nothing cruel, hurtful, or torturous (oh, please…) about putting a silly cosume on a dog. If you think there is, then you are seriously WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too sensative, and need to lighten up a lot. I see people over-react to just about any animal-human interaction online, and are quick to shout “cruelty” over the silliest of things. This is just some good, clean fun, and you don’t have to try to ruin everyone else’s fun, humans and animals incuded, because you think breathing too closely to an animal constitutes “torture.”
Examples of animal cruelty:
1. Not properly feeding an animal.
2. Not caring for an animal’s medical needs.
3. Not interacting and showing enough compassion with your animal.
4. Purposely inflicting pain on an animal without a good reason. (i.e. you’re being attacked)
Examples of things people whine about being “cruelty”:
1. The topic at hand
2. Playing roughy with an animal (as long as it doesn’t hurt them)
3. Teaching your animal to preform a trick.
4. Making your animal preform a trick before rewarding them with food or other things.

Wanna hear something funny? Some Humane Societies have raffles and contests and stuff to raise money…and often it involves a Dog or Pet Costume contest…now if hte Humane Society does it than I love these people who say its cruelty to Animals…these pics are friggin hilarious on here hahaha

hey dogs adore their owners, they give them food,water, love and a good vet. we do that 4 dogs all over the year!!! so …if we dress them up ONE, only ONE fuckin’ day what’s the matter??? and it’s not even one day,one night!!! If dogs don’t wanna wear those costumes(as Fran said) they will let you know (they will cry or try to destroy it). And when their owners realize this they will just stop dressing them up (they don’t wanna waste their money in something they are gonna make rags!!). But dogs allow them because they LOVE their owners, they can do ANYTHING for them although we don’t want them to do anything 4 us!!!! thank you

If putting a costume on an animal is cruel then wouldnt putting a costume on a baby be cruel too? Yet not many people think that dressing up a baby in a costume is cruel even thought a young baby and an animal have the same level of helplessness. Animals just like babies can tell us if they dont like something and if there’s nothing wrong with dressing up a baby in a cute costume then there shouldnt be anything wrong with doing that to your pet. (As long as they dont mind and its not painful or uncomfortable for them).

Its ok to cover an animal up if it is abreed that has short hair because there is a reason for it and that is to stop it freezing to death. I would never dress up any animal for any other reason than that. I think that the costumes are probably very uncomfortable for the dog to wear particularly if the costume has arms. I can imagine this will restrict the movement the dog has with its limbs.
Paris Hilton dresses her dog up but I think this is purely to draw attention to herself. It has now become fashionable to dress up pets as humans and it has come purely from the way animals are represented in the media just like Paris Hiltons dog. I can imagin that people who dress there dogs up like this get alot of passers by staring at them. So do people just do this kind of thing to there pets for attention. I cant think of any other reason. I cant imagin it benefitting the dog.

Just an observation. Look at the photographs again and notice that there is only one person in the photographs who is actually dressed up along with their dog, which is the little boy. In the other photographs you can clearly see that the women are not in fancy dress. They are in jeans and a top. So ask yourself this question. Would you go out on a normal day in public wearing a costume like those dogs are wearing. I would go out on a night out wearing a costume beacause im out having a laugh. I wouldnt swap my jeans and top for a superman costume and go out every day wearing it. I would find this embarrasing.
I kinda think that if the dogs owner has not got the balls to do it themselves, then why make your dog do it. Also, I noticed that the photographs are titled werd, Funny, cute by this website. The fact that there under this category means that people find this type of thing humours. I think that the girls in the photographs are having a laugh at their dogs expense because they havent got the guts to wear it themselves.
The boy has a brilliant costume tho, and he deserves a gold star.

Seriously, my dog will stick her head into a sweater and pick up her paw and place it into the sleeve of her sweaters. she has short hair and does get cold. she will run to the drawer where her costumes are and ask to be dressed. she wears a bathrobe after her bath, and yes, even wears costumes on haloween. she has a christmas dress and is typically the star of my christmas cards. you may think this is crazy, cruel or embarrassing. some say that these dogs are not in their “natural state” dressed in their sweaters or that they are “pack animals”. well in that case they are just animals, that we should throw outside to feed themselves. no need for humane societies, let nature take its course. they don’t need humans, they evolved from the wild. how ridiculous. these animals have evolved to pets that depend on humans to feed them and water them and would be hit by a car or eaten by one of their evolutionary predecessors if humans didn’t intervene. i do agree that these costumes may be uncomfortable, really, and silly too. but, so is being eaten or starving or freezing to death or being put to sleep by a vet. so, ah….the unjustice, these people who probably love their pets as much as a child, have forced these poor animals to wear clothes. they would be so much better off in their natural state.

I’m sorry that you all feel that way but I dress my dog up. My dog loves it she doesn’t try to take it off, cause if she did I would take it off of her. She is always cold and the clothes I put on her help keep her warm. Also her paws freeze in the winter so the shoes she wears help he to walk around and do her buisness outside. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions about why people dress up their dogs, if the dogs like to wear clothes they why can’t we dress them up. By the way my dog was a skunk for halloween and she loved the attention she got when she went trick or treating that night.

I have a cat, and anyone who knows cats, knows that they are very independant and have minds of their own. While I was travelling a lot on airplanes I had to teach my cat how to walk on a leash so I could take him for potty breaks during layovers, etc. He took very well to the leash and didn’t seem to mind at all, even though he was still acting cat-ish he was just like, oh okay.
While it was particularly cold where I lived, he liked to go outside and roam around but his fur coat was very short and he didn’t like to walk in the snow. My VET reccomended some sort of clothes for him, my CAT, and so I experimentally bought some waterproof insulated booties and a little sweater for him. Now when I get those out he gets really excited because it means he gets to go outside! And he also gets to enjoy himself!
Since then I’ve bought some clothes for him and he doesn’t mind wearing them, at all. He’s a very social cat and while most cats won’t stand for being dressed up, he seems to actually like it. And anyone who has a cat knows that they are by no means 100 percent submissive or obedient. I hardly think it’s animal cruelty and someone who thinks it is needs a serious reality check on what cruelty is. I can understand people thinking it’s ridiculous, so fine, don’t dress up your own pets, but don’t go on and on about how those who do put clothes on their pets are seriously harming and traumatizing their pet.

My dogs have cloths. When they scared of something that is done to them, they usually run away. They dont care when I put cloths on them. They usually wait patiently till I am done so they can continue playing. With that said, its not cruel. They would rather me dress them up than give them a bath. Now baths, my dogs hate.

Just wanted to point out to the people who are leaving bad comments about the dog costume thing , that does it really matter what other people do with their pets , so long as they are not hurting them , even if they they are is it really any of our buisness. any one who says that dressing up pets are cruel are ignorant. first off you are putting clothing on a animal not beating it or anything else in the matter of HURTING the animal! if a animal doesnt like something usually they do soemthing about it and i highly doubt that if an owner went out and spent the money and time for a costume for their pet, that they would make there pet suffer . usually the pet owners who go out and take their pets to events and dress them up are more likely to care for their animals and spend time with them.. think about dummy.so for all you who say that is costumes are cruel need to read the damn dictionary and look up the definition of cruel/cruelty.

C’mon guys. Choose your battles wisely. Dogs aren’t plagued with vanity. Dogs aren’t “embarrassed” or humiliated when they are dressed up. An own who chooses to dress up his pet isn’t inflicting any psychological pain on the animal..If anything, the dog is probably gaining some VERY welcome extra attention. Humans and clothing did not pop up on earth on the same day, we were not created to wear clothes. So, why is it so cruel to dress an animal, and essentially required for a human being?

Please people, cruelty, really? We don’t call it child abuse when you dress your children up for halloween. Sure when they get older they get excited about costumes, but what about when they are babies and have no choice- but yet you think its SO ADORABLE!! You take pictures, you show them off to your friends, you may even get a good chuckle. Now ask yourself why you do it….for fun? for a laugh? to get in the spirit of the holiday? for love?
People are just getting into the spirit of the holiday with their pets as well. People also put sweaters and outfits on their dogs on a regular basis, but you aren’t so quick to call this cruelty. so why does it become ‘wrong’ when the outfit being worn is a costume?
