World Of Warcraft Addiction On Tyra Banks Show

Autumn has a dilemma. Her husband Shawn is a World of Warcraft addict and this had turned her life upside down. The Tyra Banks Show: tough Love With Dr. Garry peers into the lives of this previously loving couple and looks at how addiction to videogames could actually ruin one’s relationship. Autumn stressed out how Shawn had even chose to play World Of Warcraft when she was in labour with their first child. Was it the seduction of the game or Autumn’s weight gain that had Shawn caring less about her? Tyra Banks and Dr Gary tries to find out and help solve their rocky relationship. 2 videoclips after the jump.

See it doesnt matter if its a game or not, OR IF ITS REALL, wtf difference does it make if its another human being he is having fun with or a computer game, as long as you enjoy it…
Plus WoW is an online rpg which means you get to talk with millions of people while playing, THATS REAL!
Clearly missing his child’s birth and all is problematic, but don’t blame the game, it is just that in this world you can find mentally challenged people that can’t make a difference between priorities.
Too many people play WoW, do they all end up having no social/love life? no.
Ive met some of the coolest people on WoW, have played with irl friends, and it all turned out great!
ps: gotta get BC T_T
January 30th, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Well first off he didnt miss the birth… he played for 3 hours of her labor… which was pretty effed up… Ive played WoW for bout 2 years… and yeah it can be quite adicting… but Ive quit in the past and went back later… so its not that hard… but as far as that whole scene they put on there… it was quite useless… youd think they would have done a little research before going through all that… maybe have him delete it off his hard drive… and shut down his account…. but no… well just rip up some CD’s that’ll show em…… just a waste of air time… they got nothing done there…

[…] Elég súlyos mértékben lefelé Ãvel a WoW pályája, már ami a mainstream médiában való megjelenéseket illeti. KezdÅ‘dött ugye a zseniális South Parkkal, aztán jött az emlékezetes Frei Dosszié, most meg a jenkiháziaknál a Tyra Banks Show-ban folytatódik a mélyrepülés (ez olyan, mint a Mónikasó, csak jobb csaj a házigazda). Jáj, a férjem folyton a játék elÅ‘tt ül, és elhanyagolja a családját, hüpp, hüpp, ilyesmi. Itt lehet a műsorból pár részletet megnézni. […]
January 30th, 2007 at 9:58 pm
The entire show sounded like it was scripted out of someone’s anxiety and ignorance towards the game.
“I’ve heard stories and been in relationships where, you know, I’m being ignored because he’s running out with his friends or doing things with human beings, but he’s doing this with a video game, something that’s just a computer.”
Shows how they twist it knowing nothing about it. WoW is played with friends, with human beings. Not with just a computer. Period. Agreed though, that people who miss out real life by that much, such as not being there when in labor or near it, do have a big problem and need to get a hold of themselves.

i wish i can say that that show was totally dumb… wait… i am saying it, that show was TOTALLY DUMB! for some educated doctor, he acted like a total dense ditz like tyra! heck… do research about what ur gonna be talking about! shredding that CD does not do a thing to him! doesnt that show have researchers or advisors?!? prolly just another dumb show for dense people!
i know the guy was being a loser for what he did, but heck the game is not the problem… he has more issues than just the game. WOW was just a means of his escape… even if his account gets cancelled, i bet it’ll be sumthin else!
WOW ROCKS!!! the show sucked!

Wait, I’m trying to figure this out…. Are a bunch of profession gamer Wow freaks criticizing a chick for being very slightly overweight, after having given a birth?
omfg I’m going to assume you WoW addicts are all fit and well built from now on then! I mean, pretending you’re an Elf on the Internet is like, equivalent to going to the gym five days a week, am I right?
Thanks guys, I was looking for a self-delusional superiority complex, and I think now I’ve found one: I’m a WoW fan.
February 1st, 2007 at 12:05 pm
All i have to say. I used to be an ex WOW addict. I used to play 12-16 hours a day. for a period of almost 2 years. All i can say, STOP playing this game because its way too much grinding and it becomes an obsession… when you spend real money for pixels… thats where you have to seriously stop and think about what youre doing. The only people who are really getting something out of this game are the chinese farmers and the game producers from your 15$/monthly… Think about it!

Ok … first of all. Yes this guy was a loser for missing the birth of his own child regardless of how much of a loser his wife is. … not to mention how stupid she is. If she “cared” … she would maybe do some research and dig into his obsession. If she “cared” she would figure out this “game” and then take REAL action. Like… lets see, Delete his characters. … its simple, select the character from the character screen, Select [Delete] Type in DELETE. hit ok. Repeat for all characters. … if you are so inclined to find some worth in this, change his password, you can do that from the account management screen. Then EBAY his account information.
Now the other side of the story… Some say you get nothing from the game. Wrong. You get enjoyment, you get friendship, you get respect from your peers(by that i mean other wow players who respect how well you can perform), you learn team management, you also learn to balance personal issues, which this guy happens to fail at. Do not insult this “game”, its MUCH more involved than you think. Guilds can be like well run businesses. It can teach a person a lot of skills that they will be able to use in “real life”.
Somone said you get nothing from the game, Well you get nothing from TV… and people watch crap like this show… every single day. AND THEY FEEL JUSTIFIED in their TV habits. They feel like they are taking in something thats dreadfully important. … You pay your $80+ a month for your silly cable shows. You watch the View… and the Rosie show… and the price is right, and … bah… TV is the devil and you TV wives watch more than we play. … The point is … entertainment is entertainment. As long as its done in a responsible way its fine. We all have hobbies. … Its simple, take care of yourself and your own, and you can do what you want with your spare time. Thats the issue here, NOT WoW. And dont you EVER say it is. Its just slanderous. The game IS NOT THE ISSUE. … period.
February 2nd, 2007 at 4:19 am
Oh and she IS a fat cow… i mean Tauren.
And no all gamers arent washboard stomached body builders.
But they arent all overweight, diabetic, pizza faced losers either.
Generalizing wont help back up your slander of Warcraft.
Seriously… gals… if you have a problem with your guys hobbies.
Talk to him about it. Learn about it (seriously, dont just browse the site and be done, learn this stuff, its his stuff. You would expect no less from him) Express your issues with it.
Compromise with him. He wont give up the stuff he loves easily, and that includes you, AND the world he has come to love. Try to be a part of that world for him, and ask that he takes part in your lives more actively, express how much you NEED him to be there for you. But remember its a balance, take away his hobbies and he will degrade into a miserable person, he might even begin to hate his life, and possibly even you if you take the all or nothing approach. Balance is important. Communication is important. Understanding is important from both ends. If you care about each other, for gods sake take the time to care about each other instead of just expecting things from each other. its about teamwork… work together or stop being together.
BE there for your children, and your wife, guys. Dont give our past-times a bad name, these fools dont need more ammo against us gamers. … Wives… please try to play with your man. Or at least accept his hobby as something he truly enjoys. Dont devalue his loves… those loves include you.
February 2nd, 2007 at 10:19 am
Think Xar has it on a lot his points. If you can’t appreciate his hobby, why should he appreciate yours? Why should you be the one to get everything YOUR way. It’s all about balance, life is balance, the world is balance. If there was no balance in this world.. do I even need to continue? You can’t have good without the bad, it’s all perspective. This girl instantly came across to me as the naggy, never interested in what you’re doing type of person. Think he got too serious with the wrong girl.
Anyways, peace.

First, he did not miss the birth, he was just away for 3 hrs of the labor, he made is back before the birth.
Second, everyone loves to generalize and stereotype, when you do, you just look ignorant.
Third, yes, WoW is real, it may be artifical, but it still exists.
Forth, Tyre is a typical ignorant woman who knows nothing about video games and simply generalizes about the people who play them.
Fifth, maybe he sleeps on the couch because she has put on weight. Yes, most men do care about the physical appearance of their women when it comes to sexual attraction. She put on weight, and does not look like how she used to, see changed, so it’s possible his feelings have changed as well. You can judge him all you want, but you know what? Your opinion is just an opinion and doesn’t mean a thing.
Men and women think and behave differently. Women who expect men to behave like women are the ones with the problem. The couples I know where the women lets her man act like a man have great relationships, the ones where the women tried to change him and make him act and think like a woman, well, they are no longer together.
Once women finally get it in their heads that men will never be women, then maybe we will all get along.
One last thing, maybe if she would take some responsiblility to lose the weight she gained, he would have a reason to spend more time with her, and share their bed again. I’ts not always the mans fault, no matter what women think. I am so sick and tired of the belief in the American society that men are dumb and immature and women are smarter and should be in charge. I blame TV for that.
February 14th, 2007 at 9:16 am
Richard, lets get real. The American society does not view men as dumb and immature and women as smart and in charge. In fact, it’s probably the other way around. Your words are just as ignorant towards women as you claim that women are ignorant. Being the women that I am i find your comment offense and stereotypical. But thats beside the point.
Another thing i would like to bring to peoples attention is that women play WoW, too. No one has yet to mention that. Its all let HIM play and let HIM do as he wishes. I enjoy the game and I’m a women. This is not a mans only game.
I think Xar is completely on target when it comes to balance. Relationships are about giving and taking. Shawn and Autumn have some real communication issues which she is blaming on WoW. I don’t think this is the real issue at hand. I think Tyra could have gone about the situation in a lot better way. You can’t blame a game for all your problems…end of story.
My fiance and I enjoy playing and our relationship isn’t rocky. The game is not some evil force to be destroyed.

HE - Ditched his kid for a game.
SHE - Is a bitching manatee. She really knows what’s going on. The game may be a lousy excuse for him, but really, it is her being a giant, skin colored ball.
THEIR BABY - Is in a sad, sad predicament. And should be helped by Social Security. Cause I know what the baby’s life is gonna be like, once it grows up; Dad playing WoW and manipulative and fat cow mom bitching to it while she eats bon bons.
HE should at least be there for the kid, but as for being for HER…well, I really don’t care.

I’m addicted to the game, but I’ve quit playing for 17 days now. And I’m not going back…
It wasn’t that hard to give it up, the only question you have to ask yourself is what is more important the game being a large part of your life or not, get help while you can from your friends and family.
And if not, good luck with your online adventure.
February 2nd, 2008 at 3:45 am
I don’t think that some of the people who have posted realize this is a life situation. Calling a woman a fat b*** is so immature and ridiculous. My husband plays WoW, sometimes I have a problems with it too, but we try to work it out. I think it was great that Tyra had this on the show, it’s a real life situation that’s in alot of different homes all around the world. Dealing with the situation in the way of shredding a CD did nothing. I think that couple needs counseling and to really get priorities straight in their lives, both the woman and the man. I can respect that someone might like something and enjoy playing games, it’s not something I understand or can relate to but not everyone can relate to my hobby of music.
As a person I you have to realize that life brings you responsibilities and you have to take them if you choose them. Having a kid and a wife is a responsibility, they should be a man’s top priority in life. Man was made to fulfill a life as a provider, not an addicted person who is selfish and only wants to do what he wants in life. Woman have to respect that men need their own time to do things too, it can’t be just all about them, and I think that that issue is makes a vicious circle in todays society. Women are beings who desire attention and love from their spouses. We don’t always realize that men need more alone time. Therefore a wife may get too clingy and wants to spend as much time together as possible with her husband- and anything that gets in the way may be seen as a threat to that. As that happens husbands and get deeply involved with things like WoW or Halo 3, and then the wife needs more attention, and then the men get more involved. Basically thats the way I see this happening (even in my own life at times) and causing situations like the one seen in this episode.
I think that if you can’t be mature enough to take on responsibilities and give away selfishness and have childish attitudes towards real life situations, you shouldn’t be posting comments insulting and humiliating situations that are in people’s lives.
May 11th, 2008 at 8:13 am
This is really sad. I am sad to see so many young men (and by your replies I would guess you are REAL young) that can’t prioritize their lives. Regardless of the situation with the delivery and shredding cds that was seen on Tyra…not even taking that into consideration… if you spend so many hours on anything each day, whether it be fishing, gaming, or sleeping, you have serious issues. I don’t care what kind of “respect” you think you are getting. What do you have to show in the end? What did you accomplish in your life?
