These are driftwood horse sculptures by Heather Jansch who live and work in Westcountry of England. Its amazing how she managed to put those branches together to form such an art. 22 more pics after the jump. |

These driftwood horse sculptures are just beautiful. Soooo life like. I enjoy looking at them. Will you someday put these sculptures in poster form for people to buy and frame them? If you can’t tell, I love horses but can’t afford to have a real one. How long does it take to construct one? Thanks for sharing your art with everyone.

Heather: Your talent is indeed remarkable and undoubtedly a gift from the creator. Your love of horses is evident in the flowing movement of each sculpture, as is the love that you put into their creation. We have a non-profit organization – (soon obtaining a parcel of ground on a huge ranch) and creating an equine program for rehabilitation of at-risk children and abused animals. Such a sculpture would make our operation recognisably unique and the facility memorable by its presence. If you can bear to part with any – please advise us of price and availability.

The prices I’ve seen quoted on the driftwood horses range from a low of ₤4500 to ₤30000 and up for the larger, more elaborate pieces. Note that those prices are in pounds and not USD. One of the few places I’ve seen prices and specifications on the pieces is the web site of Courcoux & Courcoux, a British art gallery. The URL is to the pages with her horses is: http://www.courcoux.co.uk/sculptors/jansch04/jansch_captainscleo.htm. Her work isn’t cheap but it’s gorgeous, I agree, and so lifelike! I have eight horses and she’s captured almost every movement they make.

Wonderful. You have not only captured the outer form, the inner structure and the horse’s strength, but, also it’s essential spiritual nature which makes a horse what it is. This goes far beyond art, it seems to be a spiritual discipline blended with a deep love of the subject.

Although these sculptures look technically well-done, I have a problem with the closeness of the concept to Deborah Butterfield’s work. Therefore Heather Jansch’s work becomes a ‘copy’ of the original artist and this is a distraction.
It is hard for all artists to find their own voice but Ms. Jansch needs to seriously consider how this body of work hurts her more than establishes her.
