Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend Stolen From The Rubinoos?

Avril Lavigne is being sued by 70s band The Rubinoos over allegations that her hit single ‘Girlfriend’ was too much of a resemblance to their 1979 track ‘I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend’. It goes on a different tune but the chorus sounds too coincidental similar. Avril denied that she had even heard of the song well since it was co-write with producer/remixer Dr. Luke. |
Avril’s Vancouver based manager, Terry McBride claims that ‘There’s nothing similar between the two songs’, ‘Our musicologist says there is no similarities of melody, choral progression or meter’. Plagiarize or not, check it out and judge for yourself. 1 videoclip after the jump.

It’s amazing to see such coincidences in musical similarity among such talented, intricate, complex melodies such as those. “Hey hey you you.” Not even Bach could compose something so brilliant.

she shouldnt be getting sewed because she didnt steal the song the song mite be alike in some ways like the beat and its sort of like the title of i wanna be your boyfriend but the title just says GIRLFRIEND not I WANNA BE YOUR BOYFRIEND just GIRLFRIEND.i printed off the lyrics to the song ppl think that she is coppying and the song that she wrote. they dont look the same at all mabye a few words here and there but not the whole song the first line of the Rubinoos song is “Sittting here so close together” and her first line is “Hey Hey You You”.and there isnt a big simalarity.

These songs sound nothing alike. These guys must have had some good drugs in the 1970’s if they think they sound the same.

Every song is similar to at least some other song in one way or another… look at the Jonah’s brother song ‘When you look me in the eyes’..its chorus sounds like backstreet boys ‘drowning’ so whatevers. Avril’s a good artist and I don’t believe she’ll do this on purpose. Plus the songs alikeness are sooooo insignificant. The Rubinoos need to get over it.

DO YOU THINK SHE LISTENS TO A LAME 70′S BAND!!!!!! COME ON , I DON’T THINK SHE HAS EVER HEARD THAT SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!! SHE WORKS HARD ON HER MUSIC HOW CAN ANY ONE HAVE THE HEART TO SUE AVRIL!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT’S BEEN OUT FOR 3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!!!

That would be sweet to go see Avril Lavigne in concert in Beijing China. Her tour date says it’s October 6th. After watching the olympics, I really want to visit Beijing now.
