It means that all the guys on the left are supposed to be ugly but when the girls opens up the boxes, they turn into Prince charming (mentally that is).

If they did the market testing in advance they don’t care about how odd the commercials are. If it sells more diamond engagement rings they will do whatever they can with limits of the society.
I think it would have been better if they showed how much better a guy look sbased on the carat weight of the diamond….
