Animals In Formalin Preservation

In the preservation of animal specimens for study, animals are usually preserved using formalin where the whole body would be immersed in the posture in which it is supposed to stay permanently because it will be hardened. The ratio of formalin to carcass must at least be 12 to 1 to ensure a good fixation.
Here is a series of great specimens of animals submerged in formalin with 31 more pics after the jump.

the things on that frogs back are it’s babies. thats the kind of frog that doesnt lay eggs, i believe its the male that carries them on their back, but i could be wrong it might be the female

yes, those are it’s babies. They hatch inside the skin of the frog and when fully developed they do what you see there. They come out of the skin. I have no idea if it’s the male or female frog.

The frog with the “things” or eggs on its back is called the surinam toad. latin name pipa pipa. You can find more on it if you search you tube for SURINAM TOAD.
