If this is a prison, then these people did something very bad to be here and deserve to be punished. How is this punishment? How will this ever deter criminals from offending or reoffending? I would kill to get in here!

I am from Austria and know People who are working in there.
This is only the Office Part where the Judges have there Office. The actual prison is in the back in an old castle like all prisons in austria.

And this is meant to punish a criminal how exactly? Who would want rehabilitation when you can live a heck of a lot better than 95% of the world’s population. I can just imagine what a worker in a sweat shop who lives in pest infested cabins with no clean water to make their Nikeys and T.V. would say. And people think there is justice in the world.

The effectiveness of this establishment for rehabilitation, resettlement and reducing reoffending depends very much upon the quality of life that offenders have whilst in custody. An establishment which, by dint of it’s comfortable, modern surroundings, provides a positive environment for offenders will be far more beneficial both to offenders and to society at large. It will reduce the emotional and psychological strain the custody inevitably results in, thus improving the over all mental health of offenders, keeping self-harm rates down, and give offenders the opportunities to address their behaviour. I think this establishment is a fantastic idea.

And in response to Jay (post 3), it is unlikely that you could “kill to get in there” as the maximum tariff for offenders in Loeben is 18 months. If people were getting 18 months for murder, then you might have something to complain about.

i think it’s a good idea.
i mean, they’re still locked up and secure meanwhile they’re in an environment that’s much more positive than the rest of the prisons. if you were a depressed prisoner wouldn’t it make your life more positive in a way because you’re being punished in a level, humane way, other than having more negativity in your life and having a high chance of just ending up committing another crime?

I just got arrested in Austria for mugging six people. So, I went down to the store and bought a laptop. Apparently this prison has fiber internet for everyone.
Y’know what I’m going to do? When my sentence is almost up, I’ll kick a guard in the stomach and get re-sentenced! Joey has done that six times.
I don’t have any reason to leave. Life was tough out there.
I couldn’t even spell until the tutors had me take several English courses.
I want to stay in this place till I die! It rocks!
