Bird Survives Vicious Hawk Attack

Hawk Attack 01

Amazing capture of a poor bird which was attacked viciously by a hawk. It didn’t die at first but somehow it was still able to walk and it probably wouldn’t live long with its brutal injury on its neck.

10 more pics of the vicious hawk attack on the bird after the jump.

      Wooperson Says:

Bird necks are really small compared to the neck with the feathers, so that bird probably is going to live.
Bird skulls are like 1/5 the size of what we see.

My friend and I were looking at the pictures, and she noticed that the bird in the last two panels has different colored tail feathers from the one being attacked. This thing is probably photoshopped, but then again, I’m trying not to think too hard about it. Ew.

That is absolutely disgusting. I would have put that bird out of its misery instead of taking photos of it. Its neck will get infected and its just disgusting. Cheers for posting that.

      Rob Valine Says:

Great photos ! Yes, Nature is cruel. It’s not the photographer’s job to control nature. But, to tell the story with photos. Hawks don’t eat feathers and will pluck their victims before eating them. That’s probably what happened to the bird’s neck. Maybe it would have survived, Maybe not. It’s probably good that a 2nd hawk finished him off.

      A Falconer Says:

The hawk on the bird is actually a peregrine falcon, recently delisted as an endangered species. A success story. The other bird is some kind of large hawk, though I’m not sure what kind (possibly a red-tailed hawk or similar). I’d guess the bigger hawk bumped the peregrine off its kill (likely in hopes of stealing it) or possibly was driving the peregrine out of the hawk’s territory. The injured bird, if it couldn’t fly, likely got picked off later by the falcon or the hawk.

That’s nature, folks. Hawks and falcons can’t live off tofu.

Takara8tt: it’s not a different bird. what your friend believes are differently coloured tail feathers are actually the tips of the birds wings, not the tail

    29. 29
      FarSide Says:

the reason the falcon did not finish it off is because the photographer interfered and scared off the falcon.

anyway, it’s george bush’s fault. Global warming has killed off all of the falcon’s natural food source, so it turns to eating other birds.

but not to worry, the ObamaNation will reverse this nasty trend.
