Armed America
Photographer Kyle Cassidy traveled 15,000 miles over two years and took portraits of gun owners in their homes and asked one question ‘Why do you own a gun?’. Gun ownership has always been a debatable topic as to why Americans has these guns which are not easily reconcilable with the notion of self defence. These photographs was later compiled into a book and like what Alan Cooperman from The Washington Post said - ‘Each picture in Armed America could be a pro-gun advertisement or an anti-gun poster. That’s what makes the book so riveting’.

thats scary. At first I thought those photos were composition of many different guns into one fake photo, but now it looks real enough. On a note of crazy, unless all those AK and M16s are semi-automatic, they are illegal to have automatic weapons.

They should take a picture of my collection too. Heehee Fully automatic weapons are illegal, as well as those semi that can be modified to be automatic. But I believe different states varied. I bought my first Taurus revolver at a gun show, they did a quick background check and I carry the gun out to my car in a plastic bag. I just wonder where the guy get that M14 in the 4th picture. Thats one sweet rifle!
FYI, they are pushing a law in our state so that student can apply for a license to bring concealed weapon to the campus. If that bill pass… thats gonna be STUPID!

Scary yeah,
But it seems to be in your culture. In my country owning a single little gun is illegal and severly punished. Only hunters and professional shooters are allowed and only specific kinds of guns strictly regulated. Even professional soldiers can’t own guns, even theirs, they have to leave them to their armouries.

These photos are more fun than scary, they show different kinds of people sharing the same interest in firearms and how they’re all ready to defend themselves. Fully automatic weapons imported or manufactured before 1986 are legal to own but require some federal check and a tax stamp of 200 dollars. And since the supply is very limited, the price goes often beyond 10′000 dollars a piece so I doubt these households own any automatic weapon but that wouldn’t matter either.

I live in France, there is NO WEAPONS, it’s illegal to have a gun. And nobody buy that shit.
We don’t want people kill other people and I am not afraid at all to walk in the street by night. I am not scared at home!

If peoples want to be safe, they have not to buy guns.
USA is the powerfull country in the world, but there is a lot of people who die because of the weapons IN the country.That’s incredible.
Of course there are people who are bad, who want to take your car or anything else, but you can’t kill somebody just because you are richer!!!
Why are you so afraid? If you want peace, you have to begin to live in peace I think.

I think owning guns doesn’t mean that person is evil. I own a lot of guns, rifle or revolver. It’s my collections. I am not white, and I am not fat too. I use gun for hunting and shooting range. You talking about people killing people using guns? I’ve seen people killing people using punches/knives and other objects in my country (not in US, I am a foreigner living here). Everywhere in the world, people will be scary and want to kill no matter what weapon they use. trust me. thats human instinct. You think US is the most dangerous place because of the guns? Please think twice. I travel around the world, I guess this country is one of the safest place.

Hooray for Americans that are prepared to defend themselves agains the coming Fascist Police State. I will be arming myself soon. There are hundreds of detention camps being built in all States in the US. I doubt very much they are for illegal aliens. (Google Fema Camps). Police forces all over the country are being militarized, troops in Iraq are being asked if they could shoot their own countrymen., Large tracts of land have been given to the U.N. Peaceful protesters are routinely beaten and Congress has just legalized TORTURE. I am much more afraid of my government than any “terrorist” group.
