Aussie F-111 Shattered By Pelican

The F-111 is an American medium range strategic bomber, reconnaissance and tactical strike aircraft and the only remaining operator of the F-111 is the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). This RAAF F-111 struck a pelican at 3,000 ft during a mock bomb run and shows what a 30 lb bird can do when hitting it at 340 mph. Its nose cone got completely shattered by the impact but the two RAAF crew managed to make a spectacular emergency landing.

35-40 year-old fiberglass tends to do that if hit, the resin dries out over time. This is why you see so few old American Corvettes; one good hit when they’re older and *BOOOOM!* visible glass fibers!
Looks like the RAAF need to call the AMARC at Davis-Monthan AFB to see if they have any spares left.
