Sorry for them but that’s the least you could expect from going to war, a war for false freedom, for countries and people that hate each other now, 2000 years ago and will keep hating each others tomorrow and the day after and the day after again.
Now this soldiers can say thanks to their nation that made them believe they were fighting for something that is more valuable than their lives but that at the end is nothing more than the tears of the people that love them.
Don’t believe what you’re told, but do everything you can to find the truth by yourself.

Yeah whay is all those white things in that guys eye. And it makes me think about all my friends who graduated with me and went into the Armed Services. Hope they remain save. But if we can work together and not kill each other over religious beliefs we would be alot better off.

Thank you to my fellow brothers and sisters.
Hamy, I find it interesting that only now during a war does anyone care about the poor civilians. Did you ever stop for one sec during the reign of Saddam and say to your self “those poor Iraqi civilians”. That “man” and his loyal followers tortured, raped, and killed more Iraqi’s then have died during this war.
You obviously live in some small cave as well, as the middle east has always been in conflict, just one example was the Iraq Iran war. I probably shouldn’t bring up the fact that Iraq invaded Kuwait in the ’90s.
Hamy, in the future, please do some reading first, then comment. Oh, and one final thought, some (not all) of those poor folks over there are getting prosthesis devices.

Oh, really, “hamy”? Perhaps Halabjah doesn’t mean anything to you. Or the Al-Anfal campaign. Maybe Taha Yassin Ramadan actually meant to give all of the Shi’ites who were rising up flowers, but whoops, he had them slaughtered instead. I’ll bet that the 270 mass grave sites in Iraq were just there to spare people the expense of burying their loved ones murdered by Saddam Hussein’s thugs.
Do I think that the United States should have gone into Iraq in the first place? Hard to say. On the one hand, we know for a fact that at one point Saddam Hussein did possess chemical weapons (unless all those Kurds he nerve-gassed were just really good fakers), and he agreed to abide by U.N. Security Council Resolutions after the Coalition forces handed him his ass for invading Kuwait in 1990. So he knew there were serious consequences for his actions; he just didn’t seem to believe that those serious consequences would include an all-out invasion.
On the other hand, invading Iraq diverted resources from tracking down everyone’s favorite asshole, Osama Bin Laden. And we really could use those resources.
Either way, though, I think that the Iraqi people are probably better off without Saddam than they were under him. The fabulous documentary Voices of Iraq lets the citizens of that nation tell their own story, and the opinions expressed (by Iraqis filming themselves, mind you, not people talking to some American film crew) were generally supportive.
In the end, the only people who can determine if the horrendous wounds shown in the pictures above were an acceptable cost to pay are the people who bear them.

I’m not sure of a way this could be more ignorant. How dare you use veterans to make your own political statements. No one cares if you support the war in Iraq. These men and women knew the chance they were taking when they joined the military and they went into Iraq willingly. People like you disgust me.

I believe the “white” things in his eye are diamonds,
possibly from his old wedding ring? I’m not too sure.
I watched this whole interview on the TV,
extremely sad.

I would like to thank these men and women for volunteering to support the United States. I joined the Army, and I am proud to say that my son, 17years old, is in the National Guard ready to serve and protect what he believes in.
Even if you don’t support the war, you need to support the troops fighting the war. And when they come home treat them with the respect they deserve. A heart felt ‘Thank You’ will do fine. Also, fly your flag every day to show that not only do you support your troops, but you believe in your country.
Again, you don’t have to believe in the war, you the troops need you to believe in them.
May God be with them all.

Any of you who judge those that risk their lives for our freedoms should have to go to war themselves. Even when America is at peace don’t forget that our freedom is thanks to our troops. It’s very easy to criticize a war now but what if Iraq, Afghanistan or any other terrorist country had somehow gotten a bomb into our country and affected one of your loved ones. What if September 11th had directly affected you, maybe you would feel differently. Don’t be so shallow as to say they fight for false freedoms, if you are willing to say that and don’t live in another country then move to Iraq and make a point! Don’t enjoy the freedoms and talk about how oppressive America is. You talk about how you know what it’s like once you’ve been on a tour of Iraq talk to me about it.

“There are no heros in war, only victims.”?
Wake up and smell your freedom!
Look up Heroes in the dictionary.
These brave Americans and countless others like them gave there limbs for people that couldn’t care less about them.
That’s a hero.
Regardless of your policital views, lives were saved and improved by the the flesh of the American soldier.
“thousands of innocent iraqi kids and wemen” will live free becuase men and women beleive in something greater than themselves.
“false freedom”? Damn! I wish i could teleport you to Iraq 1990…

Jim - these guys are heroes yes. But a hero can be a victim, these men and women did what they were paid to and they knew of the risks. The downfall of a dictator is a truely heroic achievement. But they have been betrayed by their own government, a government who threw them into an unplanned war without revelaing their honest intentions of action.
Lives may have been saved and improved, but I doubt the number of roadside bombs, bombing raids, the “shock and awe” demoliton of hospitals, schools and the like have caused that much of an improvement in the lives of Iraqi civilains.
Wake up, smell the deciet and then go vote McCain anyway, because you are a “True American Patriot”.

we must first accept that the first, most precious resource we have is life. yes, it is a sad and terrible thing when countries go to war, because life is lost. squandered for beliefs or ideals. but one thing you must remember, is that there are powerful factions over there, threatening to take power, who hate America. if they took power, and solidified it into another dictatorship like Sadam Hussein did, they would attack us. they would bomb civilians, attack shopping centers, release biological weaponry on children and women at home. yes we fight them. yes we kill them. we do it to defend ourselves, our lives, and our right to live our lives free. proclaiming that violence is inherently wrong is juvenile. it’s saying that if a man killed your wife, and was planning to kill you too, you could do nothing about it. you are elevating the life of a killer above that of your own. when a man takes a life of an innocent, he instantly and irrevocably loses the right to his own life. any man who kills that man has done a necessary deed. it’s a sad thing to do, it’s a painful thing to do, it’s a hard thing to do. but it’s the only right thing to do. it’s not true that violence is never the answer. violence either isn’t the answer, or it’s the ONLY answer.
“Mercy to the guilty (ones who have killed innocents) is treason to the innocent.” ~Terry Goodkind in the ‘Sword of Truth’ series.

My 19 year old son is headed to Afghanistan next month. I fully support his decision to join the US Army. His mom had reservations. I pray every day in advance for his safety and safe return. I salute you every one who has chosen to serve. Do I think war was the right answer? Not sure, but I fully support Bush and every service man and woman. You guys do a HELL of a job, and for that I thank you.
October 6th, 2008 at 3:58 am
omg, I have only tears for these men and women, such a sensless war!!!
October 6th, 2008 at 8:34 am
Wow, ignorance at its finest. You americans seem to believe that if you didn’t have an armed force your freedom would be impaired, the logic there astounds me.
Nobody would want to impair your freedom for no good reason, the only reason people dislike yours at the moment is due to your incomprehensible military actions over the past few decades. Notice how many other countries are getting along fine without threat of invasion or freedom-restrictions and many have incredibly small and underfunded military defenses.
The “Hero” complex you all seem to have is another one fit for psychiatrists. Grow up and have a whiff of reality. If anyone wants your help, They will ask for it.
There’s no need to slander these troops one way or another, they knew what they were getting into and hopefully they believed they were doing the right thing during the process. I feel bad for their injuries but willingly being in a situation where injuries like that can happen is like gambling your life and limbs.
I personally have nothing against america but the pure one-sided “truths” you all so readily believe in are you r own downfalls. Your “Holier-than-thou” attitude is incredibly retarded, your illogical need to “Help” those who are telling you to piss off is also pretty retarded, and the fact that you’ve sent troops to secure a country’s freedom when your own is extremely limited by the politics you have imposed upon yourselves…..Retarded.
As a side-note there is NEVER an excuse to take a human life, to believe that in any way shape or form that it is acceptable is an insult to humanity as a whole. And this eye for an eye mentality that is widespread among the globe is equally pathetic. Grow up and get some bloody perspective.
PRIORITIES. Get them.

I hope one day there will be no war anywhere . I am sure these people fight for their belief but war always make me sad
October 7th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Ash,
my english isn´t so good but I just wanted to say a Thanks! For you article…which shows that there are still people with more than ..hero…country…god….flag….freedom….brave…. and so on in their heads.
Don´t use pictures of veterans to explain a war.
Who goes to war is unable to make politics.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
I do believe you can support the troops without supporting the cause. 2 of my ex boyfriends went to Iraq, and I have an uncle and a close family friend that went to Vietnam, all came back alive, thank God. The casualties of war not only occur during the war or while the troops are there. One of my ex boyfriends and my uncle both committed suicide after coming back, my ex only a few months after and my uncle it was years after. The other ex has had a hard time of it, and so has the other Vietnam vet.
So I do support the troops and pray each and everyone of them come home safe, and when that is not the case, I wish them to have no suffering. I don’t agree with the war. I see war as an excuse for privatizing the government, and making the the rich richer and the poor poorer. IMO Bush sent troops over to A) finish his daddy’s war and B) to help his campaign contributors and friends get richer. This war has sent our economy and the world economy into a tailspin, that we are ultimately going to crash and burn because of.
To end with 2 Quotes form Gen. Sherman
“An Army is a collection of armed men obliged to obey one man. Every change in the rules which impairs the principle weakens the army”
and
“There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but boys, it is all hell.”

So Ash, do you believe the horrible practice called abortion in wrong?? Since your thinking that there is never an excuse for taking a human life? Many liberals will say that then in the next breath preach about pro-choice.
I sense that you don’t live in America and you have no idea what our society is like, you are only going by pretty much the leftist media wants you to believe.
October 22nd, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Wait so if Ash believes one view about the left he has to believe all of them?
Whoah.
Yeah sure, stop abortion, this is what the compassionate, god fearing right wing wants to save all those babies for anyway

I see a lot of people saying “we are fighting war that has no point” and that we shouldn’t feel sorry for the veterans because of this… I feel that we should feel even more sorry for them because they are getting hurt for no reason… if there was a good reason then it’s expected to have casualities… it’s like not feeling sorry for someone walking down the street and getting hit by a car, but not really
November 11th, 2008 at 3:22 am
you know what? i think if obama takes our troops away from the war, the only thing thats gonna happen is that the fricken iraqis are just gonna attack us AGAIN. more inosent people are gonna die then war is gonna just have to start again. hmmm…..i know… the government is just puting us in war to control the fricken population. well i guess the least i could do is thank the troops that have put thier lives at risk for our country. in all acualities, we do not live in a free country. the government controls every thing we say and do. they control how we spend our money, the way we live, and how many people live in this crazy place. i dont know… we have a foocked up government in a foocked up world. just go out and live life well ya got it.
November 11th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
You guys have the most censored media in all of the free world. Most of your comments are ignorant and annoying.

If you guys live in China, you will know the true meaning of “censored media” , you are so lucky and have so much freedom, but you even don’t know it !!!!
January 27th, 2009 at 3:53 am
i’ve read all the comments and i’ve come to a conclusion. did you know that america shouldn’t stuff its nose in others peoples buisess? by the way those pictures are obviously fake… just to make you feel sorry for them. There were way more iraqi casualities… most of them women and children. anyways, in the end saddam didnt have any “weapons of mass destruction”. man, what a waste of innocent lives…
January 27th, 2009 at 3:59 am
good for you ash
January 27th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
did you notice the third picture of the woman holding what is supposed to be her arm? she obviously put one hand behind her back and the other arm was for someone else who was hiding behind her… you can see the shadow of the shirt. by the way, the last picture is absoulutely ridiculus. plz excuse my spelling.
March 30th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Everyone I am typing among the behalf of most the doomed comments.
These men and women know what they are fighting for.
They know what will happen once they put them self into that position of signing up and “fighting for another foreign country’s freedom”
America, needs to get itself back together before it worry’s about any other country.
I mean it’s economy is falling apart
not to mention the place alone.
I for one could say I have been to Iraq summer 08′
I walked the place like a damn ghost.
I couldn’t believe the things I saw.
The people.
People there are missing homes.
Kids.
The lives they used to have.
Their own grave yard isn’t big enough
People have to be buried on top of each other.
Bloody hell.
This war isn’t a just another war.
This war outrageous and those soldiers know damn well.
Honestly, people do you think a war is all ponies and rainbows?
NO!
Guns and blood + gore.
That’s war for you.
SO fuck everyone who says they have sympathy for those soldiers
because I honestly can not say I do.
And I am not HEARTLESS
but REALISTIC.
get an idea of the real story.
March 31st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
If you chest-thumpin’, bible-totin’, flag-wavin’ sunshine patriots were sincere about troop support
we would never have issues such as Walter Reed, a perpetually broken VA, and an infinitely skyrocketing suicide rate. And for you others, those whose comments seethe with contempt,
while demonstrating your hopeless GENERATION-X stupidity and misspellings, there ain’t a hell hot enough for ya’!
April 7th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
The war in Afghanistan is a total waste, just like Iraq. No, I ain’t flying the flag. Why should I?? It’s just a symbol of imperialism. The only freedom you GI’s are fighting for is CORPORATE FINANCIAL freedom. The British couldn’t win, the Russians couldn’t win (we never should have armed the Muslim crew) and WE won’t either. Just more kids and older folks killed. And for what??
May 14th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
It really is bad to see our veterans come hm after and unnessary war like this. I just read a story on vet2vetspace.com about an American soldier from Edmond, Oklahoma who was convicted and sentenced to 25 years in the death of an Al Qaeda terrorist in self-defense, February 2009.
After reading the full story I was truly appalled. My heart stopped and I felt that if I did not do my part to show support and get his story out, then I was no different than the ones that convicted him. The terrible part about this is that, it was only after the trial that defense lawyers learned that the government’s own forensic expert agreed with the soldier’s testimony that it was self-defense.
Read the full story at Vet2Vetspace.com. We have to take care of our own if we don’t look out for those that keep us safe why should they do the same for us.
