A 3.2 by 2.1 meter pixel art of Astro Boy made from 138,000 recycled Tokyo Metro tickets by volunteers was on display at the Shinjuku Takashima Store to mark the opening of Tokyo’s new Fukutoshin subway line.

The Astro Boy art was a follow up of four reproductions of world famous paintings using 320,000 train tickets end of last year by employees at the Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka. The employees actually sacrificed their breaks and free time for three months to complete Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa one of the famous painting rendition.

Totally love this anime music video using Kokia’s Arigatou with the anime ‘The Place Promised In Our Early Days’ (Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho). Kokia is a relatively lesser known Japanese singer who knew how to express her feelings by sound in her early childhood and her third single ‘Arigatou’ used in this anime music video won the third place in the International Popular Music Award in Hong Kong. 1 videoclip after the jump.

In its first week of release, Viz Media’s Naruto DVD first volume made it to the #3 spot on the Neilson Video Scan list of anime best sellers trailing behind Miyazaki’s Howl Moving Castle and My Neighbour Totoro.

Subscribers to Shonen Jump (a popular manga magazine brought to the US by Viz Media) will receive a free DVD of the first episode of the “uncut” Naruto anime with the July issue of Shonen Jump.

French publisher Ubisoft has acquired a non-exclusive licensing agreement with TV Tokyo to allow development of games based on the Naruto anime series. The game is going to be released in 2007 on the Xbox 360. It will feature all the popular characters from the anime series including Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke and Kakashi.

This is a Flash game on Shinichiro Watanabe’s anime Samurai Champloo. This is a beautiful game and is one of the best Flash games based on anime (Games based on movies, anime tend to be crap). The controls are not perfect though however this can be overlooked once you get used to it. It is basically a hack and slash game. Collect 100 coins to get an extra life.

Here is a video of Bleach Myu musical skit where actors act out the characters in the anime Bleach. A must watch for Bleach fans. Isaka Tatsuya acting as Kurosaki Ichigo is pretty not bad. The video is in Japanese but if you have watched the anime you will roughly get what they are saying.

This is a simple but fun Doraemon fishing game where you fish for different fishes. Each type of fish has their own point score. Although the game is in Japanese, you don’t have to be Japanese-literate to play this game. Just move your mouse to where you want to drop the hook. Don’t fish out Nobita or score will be deducted. Fish out the shark and its game over. Overall mediocre game but if you love Doraemon, this game is a must play.

The country with weird ideas, Japan has come up with anime looking mannequins. With big round eyes and its anime appeal, it will definitely be nice to look at rather than the plain old mannequins. One of the best Flash card game based on the anime Inuyasha. It might look complicated at first but once you get through the first stage you will easily learn the card game concepts. You can choose up to 8 different players who have different powermoves. Lots of fun and overall a game worth playing over and over again.

Final Fantasy Advent Children DVD will be released on April 25, 2006. The long wait is over for those avid fans of the Final Fantasy Series. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release it as a two-disc DVD as well as a UMD format. Breaking dvd sales records in home ground Japan, it will be exciting to see how well it does in the U.S. Rated PG – 13.
