Amazing Lego creation of a battleship that uses more than 300,000 bricks to build this huge scale model of the USS Harry S Truman nuclear powered aircraft carrier which is one of the largest carrier in the US fleet.

Malle Hawking, father of two is the creator behind this lego aircraft carrier that carries 85 warplanes and more than 5,000 airmen and crew mimicking its real life counterpart.

An installation of an upside down house in Trassenheide Germany was opened to the public two weeks ago and was designed by Polish partners Klaudiusz Golos and Sebastion Mikuciuk for the Edutainment exhibition company.

People who have visited the house reported feeling dizzy and disorientated. An interesting alternative view of every day items and the designers did a great job with the interior. Similar buildings have been designed upside down before but only from the exterior.

A cool collection of decorative stickers from Diz Decor, a Brazilian design group that makes stickers to beautify walls. Not only does it brings life to one’s room, it changes the overall design perspective. It costs around USD200 after conversion which some might feel a bit pricey for a decal.

The Big Picture is a project to create the biggest photo album in the West Midlands where the people there submitted over 110,000 photos. The photos are then used to create a huge record breaking photo mosaic the size of three tennis courts which was unveiled at Birmingham’s Thinktank at Millenium Point on 23rd August 2008.

British artist Helen Marshall is the creative mind behind the project where she worked with photo mosaic specialists PollyTiles to realize the enormous image.

If you have been to Tokyo, chances are that these fantasy images will look familar with all the building landmarks. Devoid of human inhabitation, these shows how parts of Tokyo would look like if it would ever faced the apocalypse. Nature once again takes over eeriely to claim its land but instead of a brim outlook it does seem to be awfully peaceful. Lego Sushi set that looks almost like the real thing, except for the inedible part. Taken from Big Daddy Nelson Flickr page, these has got to be the most intricate lego sculptures of sushi ever made. Every detail is made to look like its real life counterpart, the ikura sushi (fish eggs seaweed roll) shows its brimming fish eggs, wasabi with uncanny matching color and the ebi sushi (shrimp sushi) that looks ready to be eaten.

One of the most amazing Lego productions this year is the Lego Sport City which was themed after the Beijing 2008 Olympics Games. The landmarks featured are the Bird Nest Stadium, Swimming Cube and Sports Billage.

The Lego installation can be found at the Grand Century Place in Hong Kong until August 31st. Check out the behind the scenes part to see the true scale of the Lego works.

Michael Salter, an associate professor of digital arts at the University of Oregon created these robot sculptures out of polystyrene (hence they are called styrobots) and his biggest creation stands at 22 feet tall. The smaller robots near its feet keep people from getting too close to it and accidentally knocking it over.

Salter took all winter to cut the pieces which are then glued together and his works are often destroyed at the end of showing. The styrobots may be short lived but they have gathered the audience attention at the shows.

A 3.2 by 2.1 meter pixel art of Astro Boy made from 138,000 recycled Tokyo Metro tickets by volunteers was on display at the Shinjuku Takashima Store to mark the opening of Tokyo’s new Fukutoshin subway line.

The Astro Boy art was a follow up of four reproductions of world famous paintings using 320,000 train tickets end of last year by employees at the Takashimaya Department Store in Osaka. The employees actually sacrificed their breaks and free time for three months to complete Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa one of the famous painting rendition.

AntWorks is based on a 2003 NASA Space Shuttle experiment to study life in space and how ants successfully tunnel in microgravity. The ant farm is created using AntWorks Gel and is complete with nutrients to promote healthy growth in the new colony.

The beauty of the display comes in when the ants create intricate tunnels and these are light up at night illuminated by LED. The gel and illuminator can be bought at the Antworks website.

These bizarre looking hair set is the creation of Japanese weird art director Nagi Noda who previously created the poodle exercise video. Her website calls theses ‘hair hats’ which are styled into the form of various kind of animals such as a lion, rabbit, elephant, rhino and many others using hand crafted hair weaves that are made using a mold or mesh of wire.

These disturbing illustrations are not for the soft hearted and are both beautiful and haunting. CG artist Yock (Yoshitaka Kawakami) depicts pretty Japanese school girls in many horrific scenarios from the marionette, self inflict cuts to head decapitation and many others. This would probably set you back on second thoughts the next time you date a Japanese school girl.

A cool set of playing cards created by artist Kornel Ravadits from Budapest Hungary which depicts life on the top and death at the bottom with the exception of the Joker card. An interesting comparison between the radiant portrayal of life with the macabre portrayal of death.

Unique group project called ’20 Eventi’ that uses lego bricks to patch ancient walls in Bochhignano Italy. Jan Vormann is one of the artist (anyone can easily be an artist nowadays it seems) and on his website is the source of these Lego patching images. The Lego bricks do not blend with the walls but it definitely would stop passersby for a second look and smile, provided that kids do not take the Lego.

Artist Henk Hofstra who was inspired by his breakfast created these public art display of giant fried egg sculptures in Leeuwarden Netherlands which will remain in the city square for the next five months. His works has been a hit with the public and one commentator hoped the eggs would be picked up by Google Maps.
