Johan Lorbeer Still Life Performance

Johan Lobeer Magic 01

Lesser known Johan Lorbeer is a German performance artist who became famous of his ‘Still-Life’ performances which took place in public areas. For hours he would remain as a living work of art where he elevates to the state of a sculpture. These performances seemed really impossible as they involve illusions to the audience that makes him look like he is defying the laws of gravity.

Melting Building Mural

Melting Building Mural 01

This melting building mural is located in Georges V Ave. in Paris France. Trompe-l’oeil is an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects really exist, instead of being just two-dimensional paintings. The name is derived from French for “trick the eye”, from tromper - to deceive and l’oeil - the eye.

Ames Room Optical Illusion

Aems Room Optical Illusion

This is an implementation of a classical optical illusion called the Ames room. In this setup people or objects appear to grow or shrink when moving from one corner to another. The trick to this illusion is that the true shape of the room is trapezoidal and the apparent cubic perspective overrides the perception of size constancy.

Check out this page for more explanation on the Ames room. Ames room in 1 videoclip after the jump.

Hind UFO - Wagon Wheel Effect

What’s so interesting about a Hind flying in the sky? Well its because this one doesn’t have its rotors moving and still flies! This is called the Wagon-Wheel Effect where the eyes perceive a spoked wheel to rotate more slowly than the true rotation hence the optical illusion of the immobile rotors. If you think this is a toy Hind, the 2nd clip would prove this wrong. 2 video clips after the jump.
