Future Of Robotics – Self Assembly Robots

Robot Assemble

This is a view of an early prototype of using a swarm of robots that could physically join and create a three dimension artificial organism. The robots would manage their own hardware and software and even self heal when damaged.

There are ambitious aims to how the technology could be used where these robots would be used to solve tasks too complicated or dangerous for human such as deploying them in collapsed building.

Video Trace

Video Trace

VideoTrace is a modeling software From Australian Center that uses objects from video to create realistic 3D models. The user interacts with VideoTrace by tracing the shape of the object to be modelled over a number of frames in the video. The software then interprets the sketch drawn and generates a realistic 3D model.

It relies on a human operator but is a great intermediate step towards full automation of 3D model generation. 1 videoclip of video trace software after the jump.

View From A High Altitude Balloon

High Altitude Balloon

Flight 2 is a project that takes photos from a high altitude balloon using GPs, camera, sensors and communications. The risk factor for this is that the precious electronics could be lost if anything malfunctions.

The FAQ answered one of my questions though – the danger that it pose to manned aircrafts. There is an aluminium foil inside the capsule for radar reflection so control towers would have been able to track it. In terms of legality, it is permitted for that weight without requirements to notify any authority. Hit the link to check out the launch videos and various photos at Natrium 42.
