This is a footage taken from Japanese TV where it shows this new 3D technology where people can actually interact with the gaming environment for e.g. display different realistic hairstyles before a hair cut.

This will give a hint of what’s coming up next in the world of gaming and entertainment and it has also been suggested that the PS3 will include such technology as well.

Flight 2 is a project that takes photos from a high altitude balloon using GPs, camera, sensors and communications. The risk factor for this is that the precious electronics could be lost if anything malfunctions.
The FAQ answered one of my questions though - the danger that it pose to manned aircrafts. There is an aluminium foil inside the capsule for radar reflection so control towers would have been able to track it. In terms of legality, it is permitted for that weight without requirements to notify any authority. Hit the link to check out the launch videos and various photos at Natrium 42.

An interesting project that shows automatic control that brings back the pendulum to its upright position. This is not easy as it goes against the force of gravity and needs some balancing act as well. This was carried out by Magnus Linderoth and Kristian Soltesz during the winter 2006-2007 at the department of automatic control Lund, Sweden.

Motion Portrait is a cool digital animation technology that allows an ordinary digital photograph of a face into a living 3D animation. It works by automatically recognizing the eyes, nose and mouth and animating these creates a whole range of emotions that can be manipulated.
Uses of Motion Portrait could be for avatars, games and advertisements (e.g. how you would look with different hairstyles). More animated demos can be found here and here.

A framework for automatically enhancing videos of a static scene using a few photographs of the same scene. The system can easily increase the resolution, high dynamic range and better lighting from the photographs to the video. It also allows a user to remove unwanted objects as well as camera shake from the video.
The major limitation of the work is that it can currently handle only videos of static scenes (i.e., videos shot with a moving camera but containing no moving objects in the scene). More info can be found at its framework website. 1 videoclip after the jump.
