Mankind has always taken a great interest in Mars due to its close distance and science fiction depicts us living on Mars in the future some day. There is also a popular idea in the 19th century that Mars was populated by intelligent Martians but explorations had shown that the planet looked inhabitable.

NASA’s Phoenix Spacecraft is the latest mission to explore the planet Mars which had just landed in a Martian Arctic site just days ago. It will begin a three month site examination to see whether frozen water would exist in the cold part of the planet Mars.

The Tiger Temple or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua is a Theravada Buddhist temple in Thailand and has been a sanctuary for many endangered animals including several tigers that walk around freely once a day and can be petted by tourists. The temple received several tiger cubs where the mothers had been killed by poachers. As of 2007, over 21 cubs have been born at the temple and the total number of tigers is about 12 adult tigers and 4 cubs.

The tigers are tamed by being fed with cooked meat to avoid giving them a taste for blood. The staff keep the tigers under control and the abbot will intervene if the tiger gets agitated. They are treated as family members in the temple and visitors are asked to give a donation if they want to take photos with the tigers.

The Human Bone Chapel

Bone Chapel 01

This chapel located in Sedlec, Czech Republic is decorated with human bones of over 40,000 people. They are decorated in arrangements like bells, furnitures as well as a chandelier. The history behind this chapel was that a plague struck the town of Kutna Hora during the Black Death (one of the deadliest pandemics in human history) in the mid 14th century and killed many people and the local cemetery had no more space for bodies to be buried. The Sedlec Chapel was then built as an ossuary to deposit the bones.
