Recently largest toy maker Mattel recalled 8.8 million Mattel’s China toys after discovering considerable amount of lead in the toy paint. Most of the toys manufacturing from outside are outsourced to China due to cheap labour and expenses where China makes 70% of the world’s toys.

Dubai has ventured into some of the most greatest construction project from the Burj Dubai to the largest man-made island where the Palm Jumeirah would number 120,000 residents and workers. The development of the man made island is led by Dubai government owned Nakheel which is part of a government plan to attract tourists and their property value has skyrocketed ever since they were built. Buyers of the properties are a mix of speculators, long-term residents and people wanting a place for vacation. Some of the celebrities who had bought properties on the Palm Jumeirah includes British soccer star David Beckham. The Diavik diamond mine is a diamond mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories. Diamond production started approximately in January 2003 and total employment was around 725 workers. The mine’s life is estimated to be 16 to 22 years. Check out the Diavik diamond mine with 14 more pics after the jump.

The Hoover Damn is a concrete dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. It was also used for some of the scenes in the blockbuster movie Transformers where Megatron was kept frozen underground in a secret facility. The construction period of the dam took around 5 years 1931-1936 and costed $49 million. Lake Mead is the reservoir created behind the dam and the Lake Mead National Recreational area is the fifth busiest US National Park. Women from across the Arab world came together to compete in the Miss Arab World 2007 contest in Cairo and this is the second time it is being staged, the previous one being in 2006. This beauty pageant is one of the most conservative, without a bikini in sight. Miss Bahrain, Wafa Yaqoop (left) is crowned the winner. There are about 100 host clubs in Osaka, Japan where good looking guys would be hosts to girls who are willing to spend money on them. These Japanese host men spend time drinking, chatting and providing fake love relationships to their customers and could earn up to 50k a month. Peering into the lives of host club owner Issei, this documentary takes a look into his host club employees and how they actually do their work. Thrifter takes a look at some of the weird menu items of McDonald around the world. In india there are no big Macs because the Hindu people don’t eat beef. The Maharaja Mac (shown on the right) instead is made up of lamb or chicken meat. Other parts of the world include the Rice Burgers from Hong Kong, the Greek Mac from Greece, Beer in Germany and many others.
